Say, What? @ Old World Theatre Festival, Delhi
October 28 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Say, What? is a full length work by Avantika Bahl and her collaborator Vishal Sarvaiya, developed over 2016 after she started learning the Indian Sign Language. The work addresses notions that we believe are urgent and important. The performance organically turns into a conversation with the audience and there have been some very important discussions about equal art, ability, inclusiveness, and privilege.
Say, What? focusses on the interaction between two people who slide between using and abandoning codified language. As the audience encounters various conversations that are set up in space using sign language as a point of entry, the role of gesture is re-interpreted and de-mystified within the realm of communication.
By lending itself to abstract proportions, this piece opens up a world of meaning making that is both embodied and visceral in nature.
